Smith Earns Three CIAA Honors

 

Lawrenceville, VA: April 28, 2009 - Lady Tiger’s softball pitcher Scherrie Smith dominated her first year at the College by being named to the CIAA Tournament team, All-Rookie team, and All-CIAA team.

 

Smith, a Detroit, MI recruit from CMA High School, pitched 15 of the Lady Tigers 22 win season. Head Coach Steve Wallace honored Smith with the Rookie of the Year award for not only her athletic performance, but also for meeting a high standard of academic achievement while demonstrating exemplary personal character on and off the field.

 

“This is very cliché but true. Scherrie is the first one at practice and the last one to leave,” stated Wallace proudly with a slight chuckle.  “I expect her career at the College to be very promising. Scherrie’s attitude and work ethic will carry her far.”

 

Smith was also named to the Fall ‘08 Dean’s List and is the recipient of two academic scholarships for the upcoming academic school year.
