Tigers Take Panthers to the Wire But Fall Short

Lawrenceville, Virginia - January 10, 2009 - The Saint Paul's College Tigers played one of their best games of the season against the Panthers of Virginia Union University but lost, 75-72.  With four players in double figures, the Tigers played tough in the second half to make the game exciting and close.

After being down by 15-points at halftime, the Tigers returned to the second half with drive and confidence as they cut away at the Panthers lead.  With less than three minutes left in the game, sophomore forward Maurice Reevy evened the score to 67 with a jumper inside the paint.

The Panthers converted on two field goals pushing the Panther lead to four.

Tiger forward Anthony Wynn is fouled on a made lay-up and finished the play by making both free throws to put the Tigers one point behind the Panthers, 72-73.

The Panthers scored on jumper with 16 second left in the game for a final score of 75 to72.

Anthony Wynn led the Tigers with his second double-double of the week with 14-points and 11 rebounds.  Tiger newcomers Bruce Royal, Davon West and Ricardo Pride contributed to a hard fought game with double figures. Royal scoared 13 points, West scored 13 points, and Pride scored 10 points. 

The Saint Paul's College Tigers return to action on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 when they travel to Fayetteville State to take on the Broncos. Game time is slated for 7:30pm at the Capel Arena.
