 Running Game Continues for Tigers

Saint Paul’s held Virginia State University to seven first downs and just 50 yards rushing on its way to a an 18-0 shutout of the VSU Trojans Saturday night at Rogers Stadium in Ettrick, Va.

The Saint Paul’s first scoring drive started on the SPC 16 yard line.  The drive featured the running of Jermaine Williams (Wilson, NC) and Albert Tinsley (Iron Station, NC).  Late in the drive, on the way into the end zone, quarterback Alwan Lee (Miami, FL) fumbled at the 2 yard line where Tinsley recovered.  Tinsley scored on a two yard run giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead.

The Tiger Defense continuously held the Trojans to 3 and outs throughout the first half.  Lead by Defensive End Jarvis Stokes (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) with 9 tackles, the ball was turned over to the SPC offense.  The second score came on a 4 yard run by Williams.  The Tigers took a 12-0 lead into halftime.

It was all Tinsley after halftime.  He rushed for 49 yards to set up the third touchdown of the night for the Tigers.  Tinsley ended the game with 136 yards on 23 carries. 

The Saint Paul’s shutout of the Trojans was the first since 1933.  The shutout also marked the first time that the Trojans have been shutout at home since 2001.

Saint Paul’s is now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the CIAA.
