Library Services
The Russell Memorial Library provides a wide variety of services to support
the mission of the College. These services include, library orientation,
bibliographic instruction, faculty and general reserves, interlibrary loan,
faxing, photocopying, Internet, online and CD ROM databases, microfilm and
microfiche reader/printers, computer lab, small groups and individual study
rooms, individual study carrels, audio visual materials and equipment. Patrons
are extended user privileges at selected colleges and public libraries which
include,
Norfolk State University,
Southside Virginia Community College,
Sargent Reynolds Community College,
Meherrin Regional Public Library.
The James Solomon Russell Memorial Library’s Policies and Procedures Manual is available for inspection
during normal library hours.
The Library also houses several special collections. The African American
Collection contains books by or about African American people, history and
culture. The Shelton H. Short III, West Indian Collection contains books about
West Indian history and culture. The Environmental Science Collection contains
books, videos and periodicals about environmental science. The Juvenile Literature Collection contains classic children’s
and young adult titles, Caldicott, Newbery,
Coretta Scott King and other award winning books. The Schomburg Collection on microfilm is a
collection of African American Literature developed through the life endeavor of
Arthur A. Schomburg.
